If I had to pick a favourite Lakes season, I’d choose Winter. The raw clarity of the views. A stillness broken only by a movement in the hawthorn: a robin picking the last of the berries. The snow – a landscape you already love, transformed. And after a day wandering along frost-hardened paths, a drink in front of a pub fire or the Tarn House stove.
Below is the Tarn House garden waiting for a snowman followed by two views along the circular Waterfall Walk (directions and map in the cottage walks folder!) from Tarn House: the snowy flanks of Pike o’ Blisco above Little Langdale Tarn and the Langdale Pikes above Loughrigg Tarn.
