After the overnight rains, the mists retreated on a crystal clear day. We’d earned a lazy day after tramping the lonely far West of the park the day before – a trip to the remote top of Caw Fell and the summit treasure of Lank Rigg – so we took some food to Loughrigg Tarn and sat on its grassy banks, letting the sunny hours slip away as swans carved perfectly-defined trails across the blue.
