In Tarn House there’s a folder full of walks that start from the front door. Among the best of these is the short circular that summits Loughrigg Fell. And the best time to do that is either first thing in the morning, as the sun slowly picks out silver on the Brathay; or at sundown, when the Lakeland giants at the head of Great Langdale fade gently to black. But before that… there’s sunset.
Here’s one of my pics from last week, when I had the summit of Loughrigg Fell to myself and sat there with my camera watching the changing reds and golds for the best part of an hour.
